The agency has been conducting studies on the prevalence of PFAS — a common chemical ingredient in nonstick pans — in various food and water sources.

Recent findings from the FDA showed there are toxic chemicals lurking in our food supply. PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), a group of about 5,000 synthetic compounds, are present in the blood of 98 percent of the U.S. population, and research shows our diets are the main source of exposure to these hazardous substances.”

Due to these studies, it has been discovered that PFAS, also known as Forever Chemicals, have leached into our nation’s water supply, food supply, and even live stock through fertilizers given to plants, creating a vicious cycle. This is a serious problem as these “forever chemicals” are linked to liver damage, certain types of cancers, thyroid disease, infertility, high cholesterol, obesity and several other health conditions.”

Though high levels of this forever chemical has been found in various meats, and even chocolate cake, lower amounts of this chemical were found produce available at farmers’ markets, although these produce were grown within a 10 mile radius of a PFAS production facility.

After the lasting affects PFAS were found causing to the environment, production of this chemical has ceased in most places which is half the battle. Non-stick cookware via coating have the possibility of containing this persistent forever chemical, creating a double dosing of PFAS added to your system. So while we can’t control the PFAS in our food, we can control what we cook with it to lower the hit as much as possible, by using the right cookware such as Kitchen Craft stainless steel. This cookware will guarantee minimal to no use of water and oil, allowing only the moisture and fats from your fresh food to be all you need to create healthy meals, with low PFAS levels.
